Mr. Jean-François Houedec told us, "ast year, the straw was very bad quality
and I was looking for a solution to reduce the SCC and the mastitis. SOP
gave me the solution, and now I never go over 120,000 somatic cells and I
have fewer cases of mastitis, even if the barn, which is big enough for
49 cows, houses 56.
Before SOP, I used up to 20 Kg of straw per cow and removed the muck from
the bedding every day. After the SOP treatment, I no longer remove the
muck and therefore gain ¾ an hour of time every day, I have significantly
reduced straw consumption whilst my cows remain clean. The bedding
is much drier, and instead of removing it every day, I do so every 3
weeks.
What surprises me the most, is that the manure was very warm and steaming and
now it steams much less, vapours are no longer given off when I remove the
bedding and I can smell much less ammonia.
